McGill: Yes, I'd be interested in learning more about that. Of course, Teflon is also the best option for our politicians who never get caught and get into trouble. So it's a really useful tool. I'm really curious about how Chemours makes these chemical. As some of our viewers may know, Teflon is considered a poly-fluoroalkyl substance, and I just had a hard time learning how to pronounce it. Better known as PFAS spelled PFAS, poly-fluoroalkyl substances are a class of chemical that are considered permanent chemical, meaning they do not break down in the environment. Of course, intake of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, either directly or through contaminated water, has been linked to quite serious problems such as cancer or other health problems. Now I know that Chemours is continuing to invest in PFAS, and I know that they think they can do so responsibly. Did you get a chance to talk to him?

Murray: Yes, I did, Alan. I think you'll be impressed by what he has to say. Mark is only Chemours' second CEO. He took over in 2021. Since then, he has been personally very vocal about the company's commitment to righting past environmental wrongs and playing a productive role in combating climate change. We spent a lot of time talking about this, about how it would transform itself into a cleaning company without avoiding public accusations of greenwashing. It's the kind of purposeful but difficult leadership that makes Mark an interesting guest to be the next leader.

McGirt: I agree, it's important to delve into these very difficult issues. So I go in with an open mind, even though I'm always in the proverbial predicament. But I also wanted to understand the general purpose of PFAS, its impact, and how to deploy them safely. So later in this issue, I'll talk to Dr. Maria Doa, senior director for chemical policy at the Environmental Defense Fund, and try to answer my questions.

Murray: Alan, I'm looking forward to hearing from Dr. Doa, and I'm looking forward to hearing from Mark. So without further ado, here's a conversation with Chemours' Mark Newman.

ECHEMI --- The name is originated from the abbreviation of “E-commerce of chemical”.
