It mainly introduces the working principle of the gear pump, which consists of two identical gears closely matched, and how to use the gear pump.

Introduction of gear pump

The gear pump is a rotary pump that relies on the change and movement of the working volume formed between the pump cylinder and the meshing gear to transport liquid or pressurize it. Two closed spaces are composed of two gears, pump body and front and rear covers. When the gears rotate, the volume of the space on the side where the gears are disengaged increases from small to large, forming a vacuum and sucking the liquid. The pressure at the outlet of the gear pump depends entirely on the resistance at the pump outlet.

The concept of the gear pump is very simple. Its most basic form is that two gears of the same size mesh with each other and rotate in a tightly fitted casing. The two gears are installed in it. Cooperate. The material is sucked into the middle of the two gears, fills the space, moves along the casing with the rotation of the teeth, and finally discharges.

The principle of gear pump

Gear pumps are also called positive displacement devices, just like a piston in a cylinder. When one tooth enters the fluid space of another tooth, because the liquid is incompressible, the liquid and the tooth cannot occupy the same space at the same time. The liquid is mechanically expelled. This phenomenon occurs continuously, thus providing a continuous discharge volume at the pump outlet, the discharge volume is the same. With the uninterrupted rotation of the drive shaft, the pump discharges fluid uninterrupted.

For fluids that vary in viscosity or density in the process, this pump will not suffer much. There is actually a limit to the rotational speed of a pump. If oil is being conveyed, the pump can rotate at very high speeds, but when the fluid is a high-viscosity polymer melt, this limit is will increase substantially.

It is very important to push the highly viscous fluid into the two-tooth space on the suction side. If this space is not filled, the pump will not be able to discharge accurate flow. Due to these limitations, gear pump manufacturers will provide a range of products, namely Different sizes and displacements. These pumps will be matched to the specific application process to optimize system capacity and price.

The gear pump is integrated with the shaft for longer working life. Different types of bearings incorporate a forced lubrication mechanism that allows the polymer to pass through the bearing surface and return to the inlet side of the pump to ensure lubrication of the rotating shaft with different effects. The precision machined pump body can make the bearing fit the gear shaft precisely, and ensure that the gear shaft is not eccentric to prevent gear wear. For ease of installation, Knl Hydraulic Pump Inc designed this gear pump to match other equipment installations in terms of installation.

Use of gear pumps

The gear pump is driven by an independent motor, which can effectively block upstream pressure pulsations and flow fluctuations. Using a gear pump in the extrusion production line can increase the flow output speed and reduce the shearing and residence time of the material in the extruder.

Gear pump is the most widely used gear pump. Generally, gear pump usually refers to external gear pump. When the gear pump is working, the driving wheel rotates with the motor and drives the driven wheel to rotate along with it. The pump body is equipped with a safety valve. When the discharge pressure exceeds the specified pressure, the conveying liquid can automatically open the safety valve, so that the high-pressure liquid returns to the suction pipe.

When the driving gear rotates, a partial vacuum is formed where the gears are disengaged, and the liquid is sucked into the pump to fill the teeth of the suction chamber, and then enters the discharge chamber in two ways along the inner and outer sides of the crescent. Where the gear teeth come into mesh, the liquid present between the teeth is squeezed and fed into the discharge pipe.
